Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences (BDBS) Program

Description

The Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences (BDBS) Program provides a mentored, 10-week research intensive experience for undergraduates who are interested in pursuing PhD or MD/PhD training upon completion of the baccalaureate degree.  Biomedical science is a rapidly evolving and engaging field that holds tremendous promise for discoveries that will change the lives of all people by improving detection and treatment of disease.

Our country benefits from the diversity of its citizens; a goal of our program is to ensure that the biomedical leaders of the future match this diverse profile.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have successfully completed at least one year of college and be US citizens or US permanent residents to participate in this summer program.
  • Students who will graduate before the summer program starts are not eligible for BDBS, but might wish to consider our PREP program.
  • This program is funded by an NIH training grant. The NIH encourages applicants from members of groups that are under-represented in the biomedical sciences. The NIH has reported that groups under-represented in biomedical or behavioral research include African-American, Hispanic-American or Latino/a, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander, members of economically disadvantaged families and disabled persons.
