Interdisciplinary in the Structure and Function of Proteins, RNAs, and DNAs

Description

The University of Michigan Interdisciplinary REU Program (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) in the Structure and Function of Proteins is designed to provide undergraduate students with a 10 week research experience in the areas of biochemistry, biophysics, cheminformatics, computational chemistry, enzymology, marine biology, molecular biology and plant biology.  The research projects featured in this program all involve studies of the structure and function of proteins.

REU Faculty Mentors represent the departments of Biochemistry; Chemistry; Medicinal Chemistry; Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology; Pathology, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Eligibility

  • In accordance with NSF guidelines, applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Applicants should have a strong interest in pursuing a graduate degree (MS or PhD) in a STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) discipline and not a professional degree (MD, PharmD, DDS, etc.).
  • Applicants who are planning to receive a Bachelor's degree before the end of the program are ineligible.
  • Participants are prohibited from taking courses or working while participating in the program.
  • Participants must be available to begin the program on the start date.
  • University of Michigan (Ann Arbor campus) students are NOT eligible.
