Computational Molecular Science Summer Research

Description

The 2024 Summer Computational Molecular Science Research Program at Cal State LA is designed to give research opportunities to undergraduate students from the Los Angeles Basin. In particular, we seek students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the chemical sciences from community colleges in the Los Angeles Basin area. Participants will work alongside Cal State LA faculty and students in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, and Physics and Astronomy for a nine-week period during the summer on mentored research projects in computational molecular science. Participants will attend several professional development workshops throughout the summer that include Critical Reading of the Literature and Ethics and the Responsible Conduct of Research. Community building excursions are planned throughout the summer as well, including visits to Griffith Observatory, group dinners, and hikes, culminating in a campus-wide, end-of-summer research poster symposium. Participants will be paid a stipend of $5400 for the nine-week experience. Please note that while housing is not provided, participants will receive reimbursement for public transportation costs and/or parking fees incurred during their commute to campus throughout the summer.

Eligibility

  • US citizen, U.S. nationals or permanent resident.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Current undergraduate students with interest in computational chemistry, computational biochemistry, or related fields.
