Background

The American Legion Hopewell Memorial Post 146 Scholarship Endowment in Memory of Daniel Barbee was established in July, 2013 to honor the memory of Mr. Barbee who was a loyal member for over 20 years. Mr. Barbee passed away in 2011 leaving a monetary gift to the American Legion with stipulations that the funds be used for two things, to pay off any existing mortgage on the building and for the purpose of contributing to the youth, which is a tenant of the American Legion. The generosity of Mr. Barbee will reach generations to come and to continue with those things that the American Legion stand for, which are veterans services, service to veterans, national security, Americanism, children and youth programs. This scholarship will honor the legacy of all members of the American Legion Hopewell Memorial Post 146 and particularly Mr. Barbee for his commitment to the community and his many years of service to our country and to the America Legion Hopewell Memorial Post 146.
