Beringia Settlement Trust Scholarship Program(Summer Semester)

Description

The purpose of the Beringia Settlement Trust Scholarship Program is to provide opportunities and benefits for BSNC original shareholders and direct lineal descendants of original shareholders in support of educational and vocational activities.

Since 1991, BSNC has provided more than $5.7 million in funding to support the postsecondary educational goals of BSNC shareholders and descendants. The Beringia Settlement Trust Scholarship (BST), Sitnasuak Foundation, Kawerak, Inc., Nome Eskimo Community, Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation and Norton Sound Health Corporation have partnered to ease the process of applying for scholarships for the people of our region. The application is called “CACHE” which stands for “Combined Application for College and Higher Education.”

Eligibility

  • Eligible applicants must be an original shareholder of Bering Straits Native Corporation or a direct lineal descendant of an original shareholder. Lineal descendants are direct descendants of an original shareholder, including natural or legally adopted children that are Alaska Natives or a descendant of an Alaska Native as defined by ANCSA, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their respective direct lineal descendants.
  • College/ university student applicants must be a high school graduate or GED recipient attending an accredited college or university and must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
  • Vocational program applicants must be a high school graduate or GED recipient attending a vocational program and must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
  • If you obtained a GED, include a copy of your official transcript with the total score. If you have been out of high school for more than 10 years at the time you apply, then the GPA requirements do not apply, but proof of a diploma is required.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need after all other sources of funding have been considered.
