Purpose
To promote continuing education for any course of study by awarding scholarships for attendance at institutions of higher education to individuals who demonstrate academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, financial need, and community service.
Background
Chester Rotary Club, Charles H. Kinsey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in July 2012 to honor Charles “Chuck” Henry Kinsey, Jr., of Chester, Va. Mr. Kinsey was a 1963 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point who retired as a colonel with 30 years of active duty in the U.S. Army. In addition to serving his country, Mr. Kinsey served his community as a Rotarian since 1991. He was a member and past president of the Chester Rotary Club, as well as an active volunteer in the Richmond Friends of the Homeless and the Shepherd Center of Chesterfield.
The Rotary Club of Chester’s main objective is service: service in the community, service in the workplace, and service around the globe. Rotarians in nearly every country in the world share a dedication to the ideal of “Service Above Self.” This scholarship will serve as a lasting memorial to Mr. Kinsey for his service to the community and in helping area students pursue their educational goals.
