Flinn Scholarship

Description

Does your dream of college include the opportunity to travel abroad, conduct research, and pursue creative expression? The flexibility to explore different fields and majors? The support to pursue internships and volunteer experiences? A talented, welcoming, and driven community of friends to share the journey? Becoming a Flinn Scholar means having all this—and the ability to earn a full ride from one of Arizona’s public universities.

In scope and value, the Flinn Scholarship is unlike almost any other undergraduate merit-based scholarship in the United States. The scholarship—valued at more than $135,000—covers tuition, fees, housing, and meals at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, or the University of Arizona, plus study abroad.

Eligibility

  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder) by time of application;
  • Be an Arizona resident for two full years immediately preceding entry to the university.

Flinn Scholarship applicants should also:

  • Attain at least a 3.5 grade-point average (unweighted);
  • Rank in the top 5 percent of their graduating class (if the school reports class rank);
  • Submit their ACT or SAT scores (minimum test score of 26 on the ACT or 1230 on the SAT); and
  • Participate and demonstrate leadership in a variety of extracurricular activities.

The last tests that qualify for the Class of 2025 Flinn Scholarship are the Sept. 14 ACT and the Oct. 5 SAT. The Flinn Scholarship accepts a superscore.

Average Flinn Scholar Qualifications: The Class of 2024 Flinn Scholars averaged a 3.97 GPA and top 2% class rank (for those who attended schools that reported class rank).

Exceptions to Requirements: Occasionally, applicants who fall slightly short of one or more of the standards described above will advance in the selection process and be selected as Flinn Scholars. Such outcomes, however, are highly unusual. Most applicants each year meet all the standards.
