Background

The Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) Environmental Stewardship Scholarship Endowment was established in September, 2016 through a generous contribution from the Victor and Reiko Liu Charitable Fund. The vision that drives Environmental Stewardship award is that service and commitment to natural resources conservation are vital to the complete education of our future leaders. Through the establishment of the environmental stewardship scholarship, we will enable talented and committed students to develop as community leaders with the skills necessary to make positive changes to their future communities. Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) is the only organization in the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties dedicated to conserving and protecting the natural, cultural and recreational resources along the Lower Appomattox River. FOLAR has served the region as a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization since 2001 working to develop river stewardship, improve parks, establish trails, access to the river, and protect special places.
