George F. and Mary Ellen Miller Memorial Scholarship

Description

Continuing their parents’ philanthropic legacy daughters Mary Lou Johnson and Barbara Ann Polley established the George F. & Mary Ellen Miller Memorial Scholarship in 2021. Previously, the family provided funding for an annual lecture series founded on innovations in the apple and soft fruit industry. George Miller’s lifelong fruit broker career started in the hard times 1920’s and early 1930’s when he found new markets for cull apples which were previously deposited in nearby Columbia River. Mary Ellen Miller was one of the first social workers in Wenatchee in the newly established Federal program of Social Services working with foster youth and helping individuals recover from the Great Depression. George and Mary Ellen were committed to giving back to their community and their daughters continue that tradition.
