Josh Peterson’s family, friends, and fellow organic farmers, established this scholarship in 2023 to honor his memory and continue his legacy of community service. Josh studied at Wenatchee Valley College and also Oregon State University. Sustainable farming was his passion, as well as feeding those who faced food scarcity, especially those who were unsheltered. Josh spent 12 years working hard as an independent organic farmer and sold his produce at the local farmer’s market in Wenatchee. He also created a mobile soup kitchen during the Covid pandemic. Something that was meaningful to him was preparing and serving soup every week at a local park for those in need of free, nutritional food. Before his passing, Josh was the Farm & Fresh Food Specialist at Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council (CDCAC) where he worked with local farms to secure their donations of fresh produce. He then redistributed this produce to food pantries throughout Chelan and Douglas Counties. It was Josh’s dying wish that the work he started would endure, by establishing this scholarship his service will continue in the community.
