Description

The Senator Richard Shelby and Dr. Annette Shelby Distinguished Scholars in Engineering and Computing was established in November 2022 to honor Senator Richard Shelby and Dr. Annette Shelby. Senator Shelby served Alabama with distinction in numerous roles in public service including as Alabama's U.S. Senator from 1986 until 2023. Dr. Annette Shelby is an accomplished professor specializing in management communication and was the first tenured female professor at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business. Both Senator Shelby and Dr. Shelby have dedicated their lives to public service and have advocated for improving STEM education across our state.

Eligibility

  • Shelby Distinguished Scholars in Engineering and Computing must be incoming full-time undergraduates majoring in Engineering or Computing.
  • Recipients must have a 3.0 or higher high school GPA and a 30 or higher ACT/converted SAT score. This award is eligible for renewal.
