The Whelan Foundation’s mission is to award grants to support the higher educational goals of itsrecipients. It is our goal to equalize opportunities for recipients on Long Island that are normally deniedthem because of cost

Eligibility

  • Graduating High School Seniors: Must be graduating from high school in Long Island and enrolling as a full-time student at an accredited college/university in the U.S., or continuing education in special education, occupational therapy, speech pathology, or other behavioral-focused majors.
  • Financial Need: Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Grade Point Average: Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  • Full-time Enrollment: Must maintain full-time enrollment and be in good standing to have the award renewed for the academic year.
  • Major: Must be enrolled in a program at an accredited four-year college or university majoring in education.
  • Volunteer Hours: Must complete and document a minimum of 80 volunteer hours in the area of special education during their high school career.
  • Class Rank: Must rank in the top 20% of their senior class.
  • GPA Maintenance: Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) during their college career, with grades submitted every semester to The Whelan Foundation.
