Make a profile and save the program. Each program has a “Heart emoji” overlay in the top right corner that allows you to save.
No. These programs are fully funded and should not require an application fee. Better yet, they usually provide a stipend while you are in the program. Read the program's details carefully before applying.
Under your dashboard, you will see a backpack icon named “Saved”.
Keep an eye out for the program by saving it to your profile. Generally, the deadlines are updated in the fall of each year. Additionally, the deadlines tend to fall on the same date or week from year to year unless the program is taking a hiatus. If the deadline has not been updated by Christmas, and the website does not clearly indicate the status of said program, feel free to reach out to the program coordinator.
(1) Please reach out and let us know.
(2) We encourage everyone to save any internships and scholarships of interest as a visual reminder for themselves.
(3) These deadlines may change based on whether the program received an adequate number of applicants. Check periodically and contact the program coordinators for more information.
Check the website for an alternative contact. Oftentimes, the program coordinators change jobs and the contact info is not updated on the website. See if you can find an updated email on the website to reach out. Please don't hesitate to flag it to us.
(1) Please reach out and report the error to us. We will correct it ASAP.
(2) Copy the name of the program and do a google search to find the program’s info. From time to time, the program coordinator changes the website URL. We will update these dead links as we find them.
In case of technical error while submitting your application, definitely. However, if you have missed the deadline entirely, proceed with caution. Certain programs may allow submission after the deadline for various reasons.
Certain internships and scholarships have a priority and final deadline, while others have a rolling deadline. These opportunities are featured on STEAMid with the program coordinator's contact info. Carefully review the program’s FAQ before reaching out.
In the context of these summer research programs, “international students” mostly refer to students that are legally attending college in the United States on a student visa or are under refugee status (ie. TPS, DACA, and more). Please refer to the program website for more specifics. If unclear, reach out to the program coordinator.
The class eligibility often refers to the classes you have taken in college. If you are an advanced student that has taken a number of summer classes that you’d normally fulfill during your Junior or Senior year, reach out to the program coordinator to explain your situation.
It depends. Say your GPA is 3.2 and the program requires a 3.3 or above to apply, simply apply and address your grades in your personal statement. If it’s a 2.8-3.1, I’d reach out before applying. If your GPA is south of 2.7, it is very unlikely that you’ll get accepted due to the sheer competition you'll be facing but you should consider applying and plead your case. Some programs automatically cut certain GPA from consideration while others have a more holistic approach where your resume and statements are fully examined. As stated earlier, carefully review the prompt. If there are no GPA requirements, apply no matter your GPA and if it's on the low side, make sure you cover why in your personal statement.
Most programs will reimburse your traveling costs. If it is not clear, reach out to the program coordinator and ask.
On average, they ask for a resume, a personal statement, and school transcripts. Each program will have slightly different questions. Carefully review the application material before applying.
